Melkamu Ambachew

ADDIS ABABA – A university student who was taken away by undercover agents to an unknown destination was days later found at the notorious Maekelawi Prison, a source said.
Addis Ababa University (AAU) accounting student Melkamu Ambachew has been the target of consistent surveillance and harassment because he was a member of the executive committee of the youth wing of the opposition Andinet Party.
Observers believe Melkamu Ambachew became a subject of interest for the ruling party security officials after he gave an interview about the cession of Ethiopian border lands to Sudan. Melkamu is a native of the border area with Khartoum.
Ethiopians have been continuously accusing the regime of handing over fertile areas of the country to Sudan, in addition to evicting Ethiopian farmers from their ancestral homes in a bid to pave way for foreign investors, who are chasing the purchase of vast agricultural areas for dirt-poor prices.
